There are many great county school districts in the Nashville - Middle Tennessee area and there are a variety of different things that people look for when they are deciding which county school district is the best fit for their family. 

You may be wondering which county school district is best for your children so we've compiled a list of some of the county school districts in the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area based on’s 2022 Best School Districts in the Nashville Area. Williamson County Schools

The Williamson County School District is one of the best county school districts in the Nashville Area and has approximately 41,500 students enrolled in Pre-K - 12 for the school year 2021 - 2022. 

The district spans 51 schools including:

  • 27 Elementary Schools
  • 11 Middle Schools
  • 11 High Schools
  • 2 K-8 Schools

In 2021, two of Williamson County School’s High Schools ranked in the Top 10 Best High Schools in Tennessee namely Franklin High School and Fred J. Page High School.


Sumner County Schools

Sumner County Schools has been in operation since 1873. The district has 49 schools in operation which include the following:

  • 1 Middle Technical College High School
  • 7 Regular High Schools
  • 1 Virtual High School
  • 11 Middle Schools
  • 24 Elementary Schools
  • 6 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) schools

Wilson County School District

Wilson County Schools is the 9th largest school district in the state of Tennessee with approximately 20,000 student enrollees and over 1,100 teachers. The district offers four non-traditional learning programs featuring everything from online classes to Adult Education or high school diploma.

The district has 23 schools including the following:

  • 10 Elementary Schools

  • 4 Middle Schools
  • 3 K-8 Schools
  • 5 High Schools
  • 3 Specialty Schools

Schools under this district have a strong emphasis on the integration of technology, a wide range of competitive sports, and opportunities for students interested in visual arts, theater, and audio-visual production.


Rutherford County Schools

Rutherford County Schools is consistent when it comes to ranking among the best school districts in Tenessee. It is also one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state. Rutherford County Schools has served as a model for many other districts in the area in terms of academics, planning, and safety measures. The district is home to 53 schools which include the following:

  • 26 Elementary Schools
  • 13 Middle Schools
  • 11 High Schools
  • 4 Specialty Schools

Robertson County School District

Robertson County School District is located in Springfield, TN, and serves over 12,600 students in grades Pre K - 12. There are 20 schools in the district which includes:

  • 5 High Schools

The district’s mission is to ensure each student is prepared to succeed in life and envisions that all students will be able to reach and exceed high academic standards while empowering them to succeed.
